General excise tax vote set for Thursday

HONOLULU (HawaiINewsNow) - The Senate Ways and Means Committee will vote on whether to increase the general excise tax from four to five percent on Thursday.

On Wednesday, critics packed the Capitol auditorium saying the plan would drive people out of business.

However, Senate Democrats say the one percent increase would bring in $500 million.
