WAIALUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman in Waialua is lucky to be alive after lightning struck and split a 100-foot-tall Ironwood tree.
Channa Dimmitt said she went home from work because she knew her dogs would be scared from the thunder and lightning.
When Dimmitt arrived to her home, she parked her car near the tree. Something told her to move the car, so she parked it closer to her neighbor's home.
Dimmitt was going to remove her patio hammock, but decided to go back inside to get an umbrella. Shortly after, Dimmitt heard a loud explosion and saw the Ironwood tree nearly split in half.
No injuries were reported.
