City closing landfill, refuse centers Sunday

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The city is closing the Waimanalo Gulch landfill, refuse convenience centers, and the Keehi and Kawailoa transfer stations Sunday to all public and private vehicles.

Only the Kapaa transfer station will remain open.

The landfill is still awaiting approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state Health Department to access recently repaired portions of a waste cell that was damaged by flooding in January.

The landfill will reopen to city and private vehicles on Monday, and then to the public the following Sunday.
