Big Island opihi picker found floating in ocean

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 52-year-old Kailua-Kona man, George Nalimu, was found dead Friday in waters off of the Kona Coast.

Kona police learned that the victim was found floating face down by a dive boat at approximately 10:15 a.m., about 100 yards from the shoreline outside of Pawai Bay fronting Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center.

The dive boat took Nalimu to Honokhau Harbor where rescue crews determined that he was dead.

Nalimu had last been seen alone picking opihi and still had his opihi knife and a bag of opihi with him when his body was found.

Police have classified the investigation as a coroner's inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
