FEMA sponsors disaster training classes

A series of courses to be held over the next two weeks will help emergency management officials as well as the general public prepare for both natural and man-made disasters.

The Regional Training Initiative (RTI) is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and being held from March 28 through April 8 at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel. It provides courses on such topics as tsunami awareness and ways to ensure that the work of government agencies and businesses will continue in the aftermath of disaster events.

The courses, which range from six to 16 hours in length, are being provided by the Pacific Regional Disaster Preparedness Center, which is based in Hilo. While most of the courses are aimed at government officials and first-responders, some are available to the public on a space-available basis.

The following courses are open to the public:

AWR-217: Tsunami Awareness
March 31 (Hilton Prince Kuhio - Classroom 2)

AWR-146: Community Partnerships & Awareness Training
April 5, 6, 7 or 8 (Hilton Prince Kuhio - Classroom 1)

PER-280: Strengthening Cooperative Efforts Among Public & Private Sector Entities
April 6 (Hilton Prince Kuhio - Classroom 2)
April 7 (Hilton Prince Kuhio - Classroom 3)

MGT-381: Business Continuity & Emergency Management
April 5 and 7 (Hilton Prince Kuhio - Classroom 2)
