Boaters rescued in rough waters off Big Island

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two boaters were rescued at about 10:51 a.m. Thursday in waters about 400 yards off Coconut Island after their boat capsized in the rough ocean conditions.

Firefighters sent two rescue specialists aboard Hawaii County Fire Chopper to bring the victim to shore.

The two were hanging on to a 12-foot capsized aluminum boat for about an hour before help arrived.

The boat was uprighted and towed the boat to Reed's Bay.

The National Weather Service has issued a small craft advisory for all coastal waters.

Neither victim was injured.
