No Relief from Strong Winds

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Strong winds continue to blow across the state with a number of wind-related advisories in effect. Forecasters say easterly winds will be 15-30 mph today with gusts to 50 mph. A slow decline in wind speeds will begin tonight, with breezy conditions expected to last into through the weekend.

Wind gusts recorded in the last 24 hours:

55 mph - Kawaihae, Hawaii

53 mph - South Point, Hawaii

35 mph - HNL

39 mph - Kahului, Maui

37 mph - Port Allen, Kauai

Warnings and advisories currently in effect:

Gale Warning: Alenuihaha and Pailolo Channels, Big Island Leeward Waters - gales to 35 knots and seas to 18 feet

Small Craft Advisory: All other coastal waters - winds to 30 knots and seas to 16 feet

High Surf Advisory: East-facing shorelines of all islands except Lanai and Niihau - wind driven waves exceeding 8 feet

Wind Advisory: All Islands - winds will be 15-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph
