Work continues on School Street sink hole

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - City crews will continue with the emergency repair work Wednesday night to fill a sink hole created Monday in the road on School Street near Nuuanu Avenue.

Work is expected to last into the middle of next week.

On Tuesday night, crews removed debris and a large boulder, as a result of the cave in, and will remove more debris Wednesday.

The sink hole did not break a 15-inch wastewater pipe but it damaged an adjacent manhole.

School Street will be closed from Nuuanu Avenue to Aala Street from 8 p.m. till 5 a.m. Thursday morning.

Not turns will be allowed from Nuuanu Avenue on to School Street during that time.

Starting at 5 a.m. Thursday morning, one westbound lane will be opened on School Street in the area.

Message boards will be placed at School/Nuuanu and Vineyard Boulevard advising motorists to detour to Vineyard Boulevard and use Aala Street to access the H-1 westbound ramp.
