PO'IPÛ (HawaiiNewsNow) – A visitor from Rancho Murieta, California drowned this afternoon in waters off Po'ipû Beach.
A 68-year-old male visitor was swimming near the Sheraton Kaua'i Resort at about 1:15 p.m Tuesday. Witnesses say that it looked like the man was trying to swim to shore when he began having difficulty swimming through the waves and currents.
Police, fire fighters and medics responded to 911 call. Rescuers performed CPR but were unable to revive the swimmer.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
