WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) - One of those pitching in and lending a hand to help the people suffering in Japan is Iron Chef and restauranteur Masaharu Morimoto.

The Japan native is spearheading an upcoming benefit fundraiser March 23, complete with a sushi bar, auction, and live entertainment by Raiatea Helm and Makana.

Morimoto says he was moved by the images of the disaster and wanted to contribute.

"So fortunately my family and fans is safe, but we are all Japanese and same family, so you know I feel safe, but sad, so I have to do something to help them. Not big, big money but of course everything from our hearts", said Morimoto.

The event is slated for Wednesday, March 23 at Morimoto Waikiki beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets start at $150 per person and 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Red Cross Japan Relief Fund.
