HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Police teamed up with community volunteers Saturday to beautify Windward Oahu. Everybody met at Kaneohe District Park, armed with buckets, paint brushes and rollers.
They call it Project Clean, which stands for "Community Lokahi to Enrich our Aina Now." The team cleaned up neighborhoods in Kailua, Kaneohe, Kahuluu, and Waimanalo.
Police Chief Louis Kealoha, who started the project, says cleanliness contributes to safety: "There's a huge homeless camp, lot of needles, and drug paraphernalia. In order to keep our community safe, we have to clean this area up, as well as many other areas in the Windward side."
Project Clean events are held year round. These teams have spruced up neighborhoods, including McCully, Waipahu, Downtown, and Kapolei.
