Memorial fund for deceased big wave surfer's family

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The surf world is in mourning, still reeling from the sudden death on Wednesday, of Hawaii surfer, Sion Milosky.

We learned Thursday that Milosky was wearing a flotation device when he wiped out at Mavericks, in Northern California.

The Kauai native is the first surfer to die at the big wave spot since Mark Foo in 1994.

On Thursday, Milosky's wife visited the beach where he lost his life, leaving behind notes written in the sand.

There was a line of flowers, and a growing memorial with his name etched in wood.

One of his sponsors, Vans, has opened a memorial account for his wife and two daughters. It's called the Sion Milosky Memorial Fund.
