Donation opportunities for relief effort

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - There are plenty of options for you to help out as people begin to deal with the aftermath of the tsunami.

Several banks and businesses, in addition to the Red Cross, are collecting donations to help the people of Japan, and those in our islands. Below you'll find some of those options.

You can visit www.redcross.org and donate to Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami, or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

The various banks are planning on sending all money to the Red Cross, so they're suggesting you make checks out to the American Red Cross. First Hawaiian Bank was one of the first to set up a fund. You can see that full story and how to donate on our website at http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=14236269.

Hawaii National Bank is accepting cash and check donations at their branches. Plus, Central Pacific Bank will collect cash for the relief fund. The Red Cross tells us L&L locations across the island chain are collecting checks only, and Hilo Hatties is accepting donations as well. Next Wednesday, Chef Roy Yamaguchi is hosting a benefit dinner at Roy's Restaurant in Hawaii Kai. You can call 808-395-7697.
