HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu man has been charged with second-degree assault for allegedly attacking a female paramedic who was trying to help him.

Bail for Herlip Nowell, 64, is set at $11,000.

Investigators say two female paramedics, ages 32 and 28, were called to 1525 Rycroft Street at about 4:40 AM Wednesday and found Nowell lying in a hallway. The younger medic identified herself to the patient and tried to assist him, when he allegedly swore at her and punched her in the face.

Police and fire crews arrived at the scene and detained the suspect. Investigators say he was intoxicated and appeared to have no other medical condition.

The victim complained of pain to the left side of her face, but declined treatment at the scene.
