KIHEI, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) - Thursday's tsunami struck Maui on its western coast, mostly affecting beaches and boat harbors.
The largest amount of damage is clearly seen in Maalaea Boat Harbor, as well as at Kamaole and Kalepolepo in Kihei. A state spokesperson says crews have recently been repairing beach areas anyway, as recent rains swept away much of the sand. He says they'll continue to work on the area, especially now.
As of Saturday, Maui County officials are waiting for information regarding Maalaea Boat Harbor from the state. It is a state facility, so the county needs state officials to authorize work, and allocate funding.
