Kauai tsunami zone website

KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow)  –  Kaua'i is in a tsunami warning due to an 8.8 magnitude earthquake which hit Japan earlier this evening.

Based on all available data a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

If tsunami waves impact Hawai'i, the estimated earliest arrival of the first tsunami wave is 3:07 am Hawai'i Standard Time on Friday, March 11.

Civil Defense sirens will sound at 10:55 pm, 11:55 pm, 12:55 pm, 1:55 am, and 2:25 am.

Residents are advised to take precautions to preserve life and property.  Residents and visitors who are not in tsunami inundation zones are asked to stay where they are to keep roads as clear as possible for evacuation efforts. 

For those who are in a tsunami inundation zone, please be prepared to move to higher ground if instructed.
