Good afternoon, here are some of the stories we're working on for Hawaii News Now Tuesday at 5 and 5:30.
PALI HIGHWAY TO CLOSE THIS WEEKEND
Don't plan on using the Pali Highway this weekend. State Department of Transportation officials say they have to shut it down in both direction this weekend to do work to prevent possible landslides. The area of concern is near the hairpin turn on the Kailua side of the tunnels. But that's not all -- there may also be closures all next week. Our Tim Sakahara will have a full report tonight at 5.
MAYOR WRIGHT HOUSING TO GET HOT WATER
With some residents being without hot water for years, today Governor Neil Abercrombie said he'll fix the hot water problem immediately. But that's not the only problem -- there are other issues to contend with at the state-owned affordable housing complex. Brooks Baehr will have that report tonight at 5.
WAIKIKI WATER MAIN BREAK -- REPAIRS DONE TODAY?
Almost done! That 12 inch water main break in Waikiki that shut down streets between Royal Hawaiian Avenue, Kuhio Avenue and Waikolu Way has been repaired. The rest of the "mop up" work should be completed by 7 tonight. We'll tell you all about it at 5.
ONE DOWN, TWO TO GO FOR AUSTRALIAN SWIMMER
48-year old grandmother, Penny Palfrey, and her husband, Chris, have logged one channel crossing in their quest to swim three major Hawaiian channels in three weeks. Together, they swam from Kahoolawe to Maui this past Saturday. On Friday, they plan to tackle the imposing 26-mile Kaiwi Channel (Maui to Oahu). Then later this month they will wrap up their channel crossing quest by taking on the 17-mile channel between Kauai and Niihau. That story is at 5:30.
I hope you'll join Stephanie Lum and me for these stories and more tonight on Hawaii News Now at 5 and 5:30. See you then!
