HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Firefighters responded to a fire at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Two engine crews and a ladder crew responded to the blaze which was extinguished by the Kealohilani Tower's sprinkler system by 1:58 p.m.

According to the fire department, the fire started in a maintenance room where a couple of mattresses burned.

"It involved what appears to be some rollaway mattresses that were in this hallway. We're investigating the cause, but there is no significant property damage other than those mattresses," said fire department spokesman Cap. Terry Seelig.

Hotel occupants were evacuated to the street.

A cause of the fire has not been determined and a damage estimate is not yet available.
