HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - At 11:00am a band of showers is slowly moving across Maui County. The wet and windy weather is impacting mainly Molokai and Lanai this morning, but is expected to move over Maui island this afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Molokai. That could be expanded to include Lanai and Maui as the weather system moves east. Some of the showers within the band are heavy with winds gusting at times to 50 mph.
Residents of Maui County are advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. The runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
A Flash Flood Watch continues for Kauai County, Oahu and Maui County. A Flash Flood Watch means flooding conditions could develop very quickly. Be alert throughout the day for that possibility.
