MILILANI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police say a pair of suspected mail thieves were thwarted by sharp-eyed residents in Mililani Wednesday.

Investigators say the residents observed two men in a gray car stealing mail from their mailboxes and called police. Responding officers located a 2004 Toyota Corolla on Meheula Parkway by Ainamakua Drive with two males matching the descriptions provided by the witnesses.

Brian Francisco, 27, of Ewa Beach and Jin Young Pummell, 21, of Salt Lake were arrested on suspicion of multiple offenses, including theft, unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, promotion of dangerous drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Francisco is also accused of driving the Corolla with a suspended license. Police seized the vehicle.

Duke Gonzales with the US Postal Service in Honolulu hailed the residents for being alert and helping to catch the suspects. He says most or all of the stolen mail has been recovered.
