HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The city and Waste Management of Hawaii will reopen the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill on Sundays only to accept residential bulky waste beginning March 6.
The landfill also began accepting commercial loads on a limited basis March 2 (except Sundays).
Landfill hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The limited reopening of the landfill is possible because significant repairs have been made to the landfill's liner system which was damaged in the severe storm of Jan. 13.
These repairs were approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Hawaii Department of Health.
Additional repairs and related work is ongoing.
