HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Drivers headed to East Oahu could have a few traffic delays starting Sunday night.
The Department of Transportation plans to close a few lanes of the H-1 Freeway, as inspectors conduct bridge maintenance work on the pedestrian overpass near 19th Avenue in Kaimuki.
The work will require the two left lanes of the freeway in the east-bound direction to be shut down from 9 p.m. Sunday to 2 a.m. Monday.
"These overpasses, these bridges, they're inspected every two years, at least every two years, and honestly probably more often than that," said DOT spokesman Dan Meisenzahl.
Next Sunday, all east-bound lanes of the freeway will be completely shut down at the overpass between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. Traffic will be diverted at the Koko Head Avenue off ramp.
