HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Medical Examiner's office has confirmed that Michael K. Davis from Waianae died Thursday at the Queens' Medical Center.
Davis, 50, was shot in the head by police Tuesday during a shootout in a Kalani Street clothing story.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of his death.
Police said the shooting happened after a security guard noticed a man trying to steal a car in a parking lot in Kalihi at about 10:50 a.m.
When confronted by the security guard, the man ran into a business across the street from the parking lot.
Responding officers entered the building and were speaking with an employee on the second floor when the suspect emerged and fired a shot at police officers with an improvised firearm, police said.
The officer fired back and hit Davis in the head. Davis was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Davis had 32 convictions, 16 of which were felonies, including theft, robbery, kidnapping, and auto theft.
Police are conducting an internal investigation, which is standard procedure when an officer fires a weapon.
