Lightning strikes church, sends debris flying

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Yesterday's wild weather created quite a stir at a church in Waikane.

Parishioners from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church spent the day picking up the pieces after a lightening bolt struck the church's steeple last night.

The strike happened at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and caused an electrical outlet to blow up and threw debris 600 feet away, most of it landing in the parking lot.

The cost to repair the damage has not yet been determined.
