Update: Toddler killed in Kauai crash identified

KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 14-month-old girl who died in a three-car crash on Kaumualii Highway Sunday near Dynasty Court was identified as Kaylie Pagelsdorf, according to Kauai County officials.

Kaylie was sitting on the lap of the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder when the crash occurred.

Her father, Michael Pagelsdorf, 28, was arrested for manslaughter Sunday and released pending further investigation.

No one else involved in the crash, which occurred just west of the Kaumualii Highway and Kalepa Street junction, sustained injuries.

All three vehicles were eastbound on the highway when the first vehicle, a county pick-up truck, came to a stop. The vehicle behind the truck, a PT Cruiser, also came to a stop.

Apparently unaware that traffic had come to a stop, the driver of the third vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder, rear-ended the PT Cruiser, which caused the PT Cruiser to rear-end the truck.

There were no passengers in the pick-up truck.

The PT Cruiser had one passenger.

The Nissan Pathfinder had three juvenile passengers, including the baby and her 2-1/2 year old sister and 5-year-old brother.

Kaumualii Highway between Kalepa Street and Nuhou Road was closed for approximately three hours following the crash.
