Update: no sewage spill into Kaneohe Bay

KANEOHE (HawaiiNewsNow) - State and city environmental officials now say there was no wastewater released into Kaneohe Bay following heavy rains Saturday night.

The water along the shoreline at Kaneohe Beach Park was brown and foamy Sunday. On Sunday morning, the state Department of Health's Clean Water Branch reported that more than 1,000 gallons of untreated sewage entered Kawa Stream after a manhole at the Kaneohe Pre-Treatment Facility overflowed.

But on Sunday night, officials reported that there was a communication error and that the spill was contained within the property.
