HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - United Continental Holdings said Tuesday that about 96 United Airlines aircraft have been temporarily grounded while maintenance checks that were not done are completed.
No flights to or from Hawaii have been canceled but at least 17 flights were canceled elsewhere and an unspecified number of delays.
The maintenance checks take 60 to 90 minutes.
Airline spokeswoman Megan McCarthy says the Boeing 757s were grounded because the carrier had not completed operational checks after updating air data computers following a 2004 federal directive.
An FAA spokeswoman said United's move was voluntary.
