Aila closer to confirmation as DLNR director

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - One of Gov. Neil Abercrombie's cabinet picks is one step closer to confirmation. The Senate Water and Land Committee Saturday listened to more than two hours of testimony on William Aila before voting to recommend his confirmation as director of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

Much of the testimony was in favor of Aila's confirmation.

"He believes in the department's mission to save the resource, to take care of the aina, the kai, the people of the state, so I humbly ask your support for him," said testifier Susan Richie. "He's well worth it and we are lucky to have a person of his character and caliber."

Aila was the longtime harbormaster of Waianae Boat Harbor. His nomination must still be confirmed by the full senate.
