Five homeless after North Shore fire

KAHUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A fire broke out on the second floor of a 2-story building on Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku at about 1:06 a.m., according fire department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.

Four women live on the second floor. Three of the women were home at the time of the fire. Everyone escaped without injury, Seelig said.

One person who lives on the first floor also got out safely.

The fire was under control at 1:46 a.m. and damage is estimated at $350,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross meet with affected residents and to provide food, shelter and clothing for the victims.
