HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Tired of the stinky smell or bulky items on the curb by your house? Well the wait is almost over.

Mayor Carlisle announced today that city crews have started the pick-up process

They'll continue collecting backlogged bulky items through tomorrow in Honolulu.

Crews have started dropping off critical waste items like refuse and wastewater to the Waimanalo Gulch Landfill. The delivery total is upwards of 21 truck loads collectively. It reopened for limited deliveries yesterday.

The landfill should reopen to the public sometime next week, once repairs are finished; issues surfaced after heavy storms over the past month.

The mayor is asking people to keep bulky items inside until the landfill is completely up and running, and the city gets back to full operation. The city is continuing to work hard to get all refuse and waste picked up quickly.
