Big Island scam targets elderly

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island police are warning about an email scam targeting the elderly. Police say, someone hacked into an email account belonging to a member of the National Veterans Network. That suspect reportedly sent emails from that account to Big Island residents, planning to attend a Congressional Medal of Honor ceremony for the 100th-442nd Regimental Combat Team vets. The email claims that the sender is in London, had her bag stolen and needs money to pay her bills. Police urge recipients to not respond to the email or to call the phone numbers provider.
