Officer opens fire after undercover sting

KALIHI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu Police officer opened fire on the streets of Kalihi.

It happened at Kohou and Houghtailing Streets shortly before four o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say, undercover police on an auto theft sting had just bought a stolen vehicle, and then surrounded the two suspects.

One of them ran, and the officer gave chase. That's when the suspect reportedly pointed a handgun at the officer, who then discharged his weapon.

The suspect was arrested, and both he and the officer were treated for minor injuries. Both suspects -- ages 44 and 19 -- are in custody.
