Hawaii Sports Profiles: Jonas Umlauft

Jonas was selected as the AVCA Newcomer of the Year and MPSF Freshman of the Year, named first-team All-American and all-MPSF second team, started all 29 matches, led the league in kills per set (5.29) and points per set (5.97)…set the school's rally-scoring record with 37 kills in the first of two five-set wins over UC Irvine,  had 36 kills in UH's MPSF quarterfinal win over Pepperdine… and the list of stellar athleticism goes on. Oh, and let's not exclude his performance in the recent UH - Stanford upset.

Jonas is a 2009 graduate of Landschulheim Kempfenhausen High School in Starnberg, Germany, earned four letters in volleyball under coach Peter Meyndt, won the German National Championship in 2008, and was named the MVP at the 8-Nation Volleyball Tournament in 2007 and posted a career high 31 points in a four set match.  Born in Stadtbergen, he is far from home and from his family. He's been accepted into the UH's  electrical engineering program, is a master at the Rubic's Cube, plays guitar, juggles (yes!) and he's known by teammates and fans as "the most efficient man",  The Euro Bomber, Boomlauft, and the Germanator".
