Grease spill contaminates Honolulu Harbor

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A sewage leak at a grease-clogged pipe joint has resulted in about 10,250 gallons of grease pouring into Kapalama Canal and flowing down to Honolulu Harbor.

The leak started at 1622 Ahiaki Place in Lanikila and was found at about 3:35 p.m. Monday by city crews responding to an odor complaint.

The state Department of Health is advising the public to stay out of Kapalama Canal and commercial dive operations should be postponed in waters of Honolulu Harbor from Piers 37-39.
