Green home open house Sunday

KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Going green doesn't have to "take the green" out of your wallet, and a new home is helping to prove that point.

An electrical fire destroyed the original house in Kailua.

Bossert Builders designed and rebuilt the new one with a solar hot water system and a rain-water catchment system, as well as other energy saving appliances.

It's the first Hawaii home certified by the National Association of Home Builders as part of its National Green Building Standard Program.

You can check it out during an open house Sunday afternoon from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Humu'ula Street.
