HILO, Hawaii (AP) - A Big Island woman had to be rescued after she fell down a lava tube in the front yard of a Hawaiian Paradise Park home.
Daisy Lopez Villalobos was on her second day on the job as a home health aide Thursday when her client asked her to fetch a mop.
As she walked back with it through the grass, the world suddenly dropped out from under her.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported she fell an estimated 10 to 15 feet down a lava tube, or a tunnel through which lava once streamed.
Her client called 911. Firefighters and police came and lowered a harness and ladder to Villalobos to help her climb out of the hole.
Villalobos' hip was badly bruised, and she suffered some cuts.
