HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Oahu man is expected to receive a sentence of probation after pleading guilty Tuesday to sexually assaulting a child.

Shaun Fleetwood, 29, was originally indicted on two counts of first-degree sex assault, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison.  But under a deal with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

Prosecutors say the defendant met a 14-year-old girl on a city bus, and later took her behind St. Ann's church in Kaneohe and sexually assaulted her.

Defense attorney Lee Hayakawa says the girl told Fleetwood that she was 23 years old.

Under the plea agreement, prosecutors may ask the court to impose an 18-month jail term as a condition of probation.  The defense is expected to seek probation with no additional jail time.

Sentencing is set for April 4.

Fleetwood will also be required to register as a convicted sex offender for the rest of his life.
