LEEWARD OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A vehicle got stuck in raging floodwaters on Puhawai Road in Lualualei just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
"There must have been about six people in the car. They got out of the car, they tried to push the car but the car couldn't ... it's kind of not so busy right now in terms of the water coming down," said Dana Newman of Lualualei.
Newman decided to pull over and wait after seeing what happened to his neighbor's car.
"The neighbors came out and they brought another truck, threw a rope, maybe about 10 people came and helped push the car," said Newman.
A few traffic signals were out in Maili. Police officers directed traffic in the pouring rain. The heavy showers created dangerous driving conditions.
"It's really chaotic out here. I've lived out here for almost 30 years and this is kind of bad out here. I haven't seen it like this in a long time," said Donna Navarro of Maili.
Some families made sure to prepare ahead of the storm.
"We got our flashlights and made sure that we were all situated at home," said Navarro.
