HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii credit card debt rose from November to December but is well below the levels of the previous year, Credit Karma reports.

The San Francisco research firm puts average Hawaii credit card debt at $8,456, up less than $300 from November but down about $700 from December 2009.

It's part of a national trend. Credit Karma says U.S. credit card debt went down 9% in 2010.

Hawaii's average credit score is 674, ninth best of the 50 states.

Average Hawaii mortgage debt, reflecting local home prices, is $303,000, second highest in the nation, after California.
