Public advised to stay out of Kalihi Stream after spill

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Wastewater from a grease-clogged sewer line spilled into Kalihi Stream Saturday, prompting state health officials to advise people to stay out of the stream.

According to the Clean Water Branch of the state health department, about 1,175 gallons of wastewater came out of a manhole and then entered a storm drain in the 1450 block of Ahohui St., near Kuhio Park Terrace.

Although the spill is not from line from the City and County of Honolulu, city crews posted warning signs along the affected area, from Ahohui St. to the mouth of the stream at Keehi Lagoon.
