HONOLULU and SAN FRANCISCO (HawaiiNewsNow) - As the giant brick-and-mortar retailer Macy's Inc. makes more sales online, it has decided to significantly expand its e-tail division.

Macy's executives say over the next two years they will hire 725 new employees to tend its websites and its online sales, after logging online sales up 29% in 2010.

It's not good news for Hawaii, however, because Macy's has decided to base all of its online personnel in San Francisco or New York, where it has long based management personnel.

Macy's owns the former Liberty House stores in Hawaii. The stores are now part of the Macy's West division run from San Francisco.
