HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The New Year could mean higher,and we do mean much higher prices at the pump.

Some experts predict gasoline prices could hit $4 a gallon by summer in parts of the US.

Oil prices have surged 34 percent since May. Gasoline pump prices now average $3.07 per gallon nationwide.

Here in Hawaii,  regular unleaded has sky rocketed compared to the same time last year. Prices in Honolulu and Hilo are up 35 cents for regular and in Wailuku the price sits near $4 a gallon.
