HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaiian Humane Society is reminding the public that pets can become frighten by New Year's celebrations and may become lost if they are outdoors.
Since fireworks noise and lights may scare animals, the HHS encourages pet owners to keep their animals indoors.
To ensure pet safety, HHS offers the following tips.
- Make sure your pet has identification.
- Keep your pet in a safe place indoors and away from anything they can destroy or chew on. Also, leave a TV or radio on at a normal volume to provide him or her with companionship if you are attending an event.
- Ask you veterinarian for ways to alleviate fear and anxiety your pet may be experiencing. Do not give you pet a tranquilizers without consulting your veterinarian.
- Resist taking your pet to fireworks displays
