State parks on Oahu, Big Island close early New Year's Eve

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state will close several parks on Oahu and the Big Island on New Year's Eve to discourage use of fireworks, which is prohibited in state parks and forests, and to protect the public and natural resources present.

On Oahu, the entrance gate to Puu Ualaka'a (Round Top) State Wayside and Waahila Ridge State Recreation Area (St. Louis Heights.), will close at 4 p.m. on Friday.

On the Big Island, Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area , including the Waialea Bay section, and Kekaha Kai State Park, including the Maniniowali (Kua Bay) and Mahaiula sections, will both close at 5 p.m.
