Highway closed, water restricted on North Shore

NORTH SHORE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Kamehameha Highway is closed in both directions while Board of Water Supply crews work to repair a broken 16-inch water main in Haleiwa.

The 16-inch water main, which delivers water to the reservoirs on the North Shore, will not be in service while crews are making the repair.

The Board of Water Supply asks all residents from Haleiwa to Turtle Bay to use water sparingly and for priority needs only until further notice. This means using water for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene only.

Traffic on Kamehameha Highway is currently closed in both directions at Lokoea Place.

Honolulu Police Officers are at the scene helping to redirect traffic.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible and to use Joseph P. Leong Highway until crews are able to remove the water and debris from the roadway.

Once the road is cleared, Kamehameha Highway will be reopened in the area because the broken main is off the road.

Two businesses are without water and have shut down for the day. Repair work is expected to continue through the evening.
