HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Podium Raceway Hawaii, the state's only indoor electric kart racing track, will open for business Saturday.

The facility, a 44,000-square-foot venue located in Kapolei, includes a quarter-mile indoor concrete track allowing as many as 12 drivers to compete side by side.

"We are extremely happy with how our facility has turned out, it's a great place for race enthusiasts to come together to enjoy a thrilling and exhilarating experience," says Neil Tsutsui one of the company's partners. "Our goal was to create a thriving, safe, healthy, family environment and we've definitely achieved that from the rehabilitation of our building to our use of the most energy efficient lighting and air conditioning, to our all electric karts."

The electric karts are not only emission free and environmentally friendly, but will go up to 45 mph on the indoor race track. The concrete track is the optimum medium for racing as it allows the tires to grip the track and prevents sliding.

Helmets and gear are also provided and are required of all drivers. Go karts are available for adults (minimum 55 inches tall) and juniors ages six and over (minimum 48 inches tall). Covered shoes are required to operate the karts, no drivers will be allowed to race if wearing slippers, sandals, or high heels. Each Arrive and Drive session lasts for about 10 minutes and may include one to 12 drivers. First time drivers will receive a mandatory briefing session on rules and safety.

One adult race is 14 laps and is $25 for non-members and $20 for members. One junior race is 9 laps and is $20 for non-members and $15 for members.
