HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Oahu judge on Wednesday increased bail for an elderly man accused of killing his sister-in-law in Kalihi last week.

Prosecutors requested the increase from $100,000 to $250,000, saying that the defendant had made threats to other family members before the deadly stabbing.

An Oahu grand jury on Wednesday indicted Benjamin Lucas, 81, on a second-degree murder charge. His daughter told police that she heard screams in the house and then found Lucas with a kitchen knife standing over her aunt, who was on the floor bleeding from her stomach.

The victim, Marcelina Dela Cruz, 64, died at a hospital.

Lucas is scheduled to be arraigned at Circuit Court on January 3, 2011.
