More heavy rain forecast after Christmas

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Parts of Hawaii could be in for another bout of very wet weather early next week. According to the National Weather Service, a frontal system is forecast to approach the state from the west, bringing with it the potential of heavy rains.

The weather service has issued a Flood Potential Outlook for Kauai, Oahu and Niihau in anticipation of heavy rain. Forecasters said the ground is still saturated from the recent heavy rain, which will add to the flooding potential of the next system. Showers are expected to increase beginning on Sunday, with the heaviest rain forecast Monday and Tuesday.

According to forecasters, the details on the timing and location of any heavy rainfall are still uncertain, but later forecasts and weather statements will be able to better resolve the potential for heavy rain.
