HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man accused of causing a multi-car collision on Pali Highway two months ago has pleaded guilty to driving a stolen vehicle.

Investigators say Romeo Padilla, 24, was behind the wheel of a stolen Honda and was trying to get away from police officers, when he slammed into the back of another car on Pali Highway. That triggered a chain-reaction crash that left a 53-year-old man seriously injured.

The defendant on Wednesday pleaded guilty as charged to unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, a class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

Circuit Judge Edwin Nacino is scheduled to sentence him on February 23, 2011.
