HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawai`i women's basketball head coach Dana Takahara-Dias announced the resignation of assistant coach Gabe Henry due to family reasons. As a result, former director of operations, Sherice Ajifu, has been promoted to assistant coach for the Rainbow Wahine.
"It comes with a heavy heart that I accepted assistant coach Henry's resignation due to family responsibilities," says Takahara-Dias. "We appreciate all the hard work that he's put in during his short time with the Rainbow Wahine and wish him well in all of his future endeavors." Takahara-Dias continues, "In the interim however, we are pleased to announce the elevation of our former Sherice Ajifu, to assistant coach."
"Family health issues have made it necessary for me to return to my home in Kansas City," explains Henry. "I appreciate and enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the Rainbow Wahine coaching staff and wish the coaches, players, and the University of Hawai`i all the best in the future."
The Rainbow Wahine continue their 2010-11 season with the Pepsi Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Dec. 28-30 with CS Bakersfield, Columbia and UNLV coming to town.
